Gauhati University PhD Entrance Test 2025
Gauhati University has released the official notification inviting applications from eligible candidates for GU Research Eligibility Test 2025. The online application will begin from 12th August and will continue until 18 August 2025. Prospective candidate can apply for PhD admissio in the available disciplines. candidates can select a maximum of two options to appear in the eligibility examination known as Gauhati University Research Eligibility Test or simply GURET 2025.
GURET 2025 Overview
The university will conduct the Gauhati University Research Eligibility Test on 24 August 2025 for the academic session 2025-26. GURET 2025 is the first screening test after the Central Application Process (CAP) for admission into the PhD Programmes of Gauhati university, unless a candidate qualifies for an exemption. Eligibility Criteria
- Postgraduate degree from any recognised university in a subject in the Faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, management, Law, Technology, Engineering and Medicine or other professional subjects of GU with not less than 55% of marks or equivalent grade in the concerned subject.
- The minimum marks for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) students or a differently-abled students is 50% or equivalent grade.
- Postgraduate appearing candidates may also apply for admission into the PhD Programmes. However, such applicants need to furnish their results before the final selection list of successful applicants is prepare d by the concerned department.
- In a service candidate either permanent or temporary or part-time should have a “No Objection Certificate” from the employer before admission can be grante d.
- An International candidate is not require d to appear in the GURET. The Counselling Process for them can be carrie d out through other methods of available technology. Please read the official notification to check the eligibility and other details.
GURET Exam Pattern & Selection Procedure
GURET 2025 shall be conducted for the departments of GU whose vacancies for the Ph.D.
programme could not be filled up because of-
- lack of UGC-NET and CSIR- NET qualified candidates or
- the subject being outside the scope/list of UGC CSIR list of subjects in which the NET is conducted; provided that the Department concerned shall hold the GURET at the department level with a minimum of 60% of marks allotted to multiple choice (MCQs)/objective questions

Application Fee
Applicant fee is Rs.1500.00 only per subject and the bank transaction fee. And for appearing 2 two subjects, the application fee will be Rs.2500.00+ Bank Transaction Charge.
GURET Merit List 2025
The Gauhati University will release a merit list for each subject in its official website based on the performance of the candidate in the GURET 2025. The GURET merit list will be considere d by each department for counselling. The final list of selected students will be preparing by the concerned Department Research Committee (DRC) and published in the website of GU for online admission of the selected candidates.
