Exemption List from GURET 2024
Gauhati University will conduct the Research Eligibility Test (RET) 2024 on 7 July 2024 in offline mode for admission into the PhD Programmes of Gauhati University.
The university will publish the list of applicants who have applied for exemption from appearing in GURET 2024 at GU official website.
Applicants with CSIR/UGC-JRF, ICMR-JRF, ICAR-JRF, DBT-JRF and any National Level Fellowships in the concerned subjects are exempted from appearing in the GURET 2024. After verification by competent authority of GU, the list of exempted candidates will be released on 24 June 2024. Applicants check their status from the direct link below.

Gauhati University PhD Entrance Test 2024
Gauhati University has released the official notification inviting applications from eligible candidates for GU Research Eligibility Test 2024. The online application is begun from 5 June and will continue until 18 June 2024. Prospective candidate can apply for PhD in the available disciplines. candidates can select a maximum of two options to appear in the eligibility examination known as Gauhati University Research Eligibility Test or simply GURET 2024 in two disciplines.
GURET 2024 Overview
The university will conduct the Gauhati University Research Eligibility Test on 7th July 2024 for the academic session 2024-25. GURET 2024 is the first screening test after the Central Application Process (CAP) for admission into the PhD Programmes of Gauhati university, unless a candidate qualifies for an exemption. GURET 2024 Eligibility Criteria
- Postgraduate degree from any recognised university in a subject in the Faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, management, Law, Technology, Engineering and Medicine or other professional subjects of GU with not less than 55% of marks or equivalent grade in the concerned subject.
- The minimum marks for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) students or a differently-abled students is 50% or equivalent grade.
- postgraduate appearing candidates may also apply for admission into the PhD Programmes. However, such applicants need to furnish their results before the final selection list of successful applicants is prepare d by the concerned department.
- In a service candidate either permanent or temporary or part-time should have a “No Objection Certificate” from the employer before admission can be grante d.
- An International candidate is not require d to appear in the GURET. The Counselling Process for them can be carrie d out through other methods of available technology. Please read the official notification to check the eligibility and other details.
GURET Exam Pattern & Selection Procedure
1. GURET 2024: 100 Marks.
- Exam duration 2 hours only.
- The question paper OF GURET will contain 100 MCQs
- 1 Mark for every right answer
- Ngative mark- 0.25 Marks
- no mark for un-attempted questions.

2. Counselling: Selection at the Department Level, following qualification at GURET 2024
Application Fee
Applicant fee is Rs.1500.00 only per subject and the bank transaction fee. And for appearing 2 two subjects, the application fee will be Rs.2500.00+ Bank Transaction Charge.
GURET Merit List 2024
The Gauhati University will release a merit list for each subject in its official website based on the performance of the candidate in the GURET 2024. The GURET merit list will be considere d by each department for counselling. The final list of selected students will be preparing by the concerned Department Research Committee (DRC) and published in the website of GU for online admission of the selected candidates.
